2. Usage

2.1 General

The files are displayed in an X Window allowing the user to scroll back through the last 500 lines. Like in tail -f, the filename is displayed above the text. The list of files to be watched can be changed in the preferences dialog and is written to the configuration file when you select Save Options from the Options menu.

To save screen space, the menubar can be switched off. Most menu items can be accessed with the right mouse button menu.

2.2 Files to watch

The files to watch can be selected in two ways:

Of course, you can also edit the configuration file by hand :-)

The list of files to be watched is saved together with the other options.

2.3 Menu items

Many of these items are found in the right mouse button menu under the same name.

File

Reopen files

Closes all files and opens them again. Useful if some cron job rotated log files.

Exit

Exits Kwatch.

Options

Show menubar

Turns the menubar on and off.

Show date

Show the date together with the file name.

Preferences

Opens the preferences dialog.

Save options

Saves options (file list, fonts, colours, window properties) to the user's configuration file.
